The sister competition of the Bath Novel Award (which has been running since 2013), Bath Flash Fiction Award is a brilliant option for those seeking a big prize for writing just a few hundred words. The entry fee is £9, which isn’t bad these days, and there are discounts for multiple entries. The top prize of £1,000 is well worth going for, plus there’s a second prize of £300, a third prize of £100 and two commendation awards of £30 each. In addition, 50 longlisted entrants will be offered publication.
Entrants must be aged 16 or older, and entries must not have been published in print or online and must be adult or young adult readers (i.e. not aimed at children under 13 years of age). Note that entries should be typed in a sans 14pt font (many competitions request a 12pt font, so be sure to get this right to avoid getting disqualified on such a technicality).
