SUMMARY:New Writers Logline Competition 2026
DESCRIPTION:Deadline: 23.59 (UK time) on Monday 31st August 2026\nEntry Fee: FREE to newsletter subscribers (which is also free)\nPrizes: Winner: £50 plus one free entry to the New Writers Novel Prize 2026\nPublication: On the NewWriters.org.uk website and in the next New Writers Anthology\nWord Limit: 50 words (excluding title)\nCategory: Novel Competitions\nHow to Enter: Sign up to our free monthly newsletter (if you haven’t already)\, and then submit your logline through the entry form.\n\nTo get you in the mood for the New Writers Novel Prize 2026\, our latest free-to-enter competition is seeking just the logline for your unpublished (and perhaps unwritten!) novel\, novella or film script. \nWhat is a logline? \nIn essence\, a logline is a very brief summary that answers the question: “what is it about?” Consisting of one or two sentences\, it is also known as the “elevator pitch”. \nThe idea of the logline is to pique the interest of potential readers\, and the art is to summarise the premise of your book using very few words\, ideally around 25 or 30 (but we’ll give you up to 50 words\, to be nice!). \nFor more information about what a logline might conventionally include\, check out this BBC article. It includes several examples of loglines of well-known films to give you the idea. \nLogline Competition Details \nThis competition is FREE to enter\, but entrants must sign up to our NewWriters.org.uk Newsletter\, which is also free (use THIS LINK to sign up if you haven’t already). \nOur monthly newsletter includes details of upcoming writing competitions (including our current Novel Prize with £1\,000 going to the winner!)\, along with other writing news and special offers for writing-related products such as our favourite writing software. We don’t share subscribers’ information with anyone else. \nYour logline of up to 50 words must be your original work and must relate to a novel/novella/film script that you have written or that you might write one day. \nPlease DO NOT write a logline for a book\, film or TV series that already exists. \nAlso\, DO NOT use AI or AI-powered software to help write your logline or come up with ideas. Your imagination is amazing\, so please use that alone. \nIt is fine to send in a logline of a book you have not yet written (and it might prove an excellent starting point to get you writing a new novel). \nYour entry title should be the name of your novel/novel/script (and not simply ‘Logline’). Save the file (PDF or Word doc) as that title\, e.g. ‘The Wind Kicks Back.pdf’). Please don’t include your name on the entry. One entry per person. \nEntry to this free competition assumes you accept the following terms and conditions: \n\nEntries must be the sole work of the entrant and no AI or similar software may have been used to write it. One entry per person.\nEntries must be unpublished\, either in print or online (including social media)\, and must be related to novels\, novellas or film scripts that have been written or planned by the entrants.\nEntrants must be aged 18 years or older at the time of entry.\nEntries must be 50 words or fewer\, not including the title.\nThe winner of the competition will be paid a £50 prize and will receive one free entry to the New Writers Novel Prize 2026 (worth £12\, deadline 31st October 2026).\nResults of the competition will be published in the NewWriters.org.uk newsletter no later than 30th September 2026. The winning logline will be published on the New Writers website soon after and will feature in the next New Writers Anthology.\n\nNew Writers Logline Competition 2026 – Entry Form\nYour email *First Name(s) *Last Name *Pen Name or Alias (if applicable)The name you would like us to use if you make the short or longlist (or you win!)Title of Entry *This should be the title of your novel\, novella or film script to which the logline relates.Upload your entry *Choose FileNo file chosenDelete uploaded fileTick to confirm you have read and agree to the competition terms and conditions (including that you have not used AI when writing or devising your entry)\, and that you have signed up to the free New Writers Newsletter. SUMMARY:Bath Children's Novel Award 2026
DESCRIPTION:Deadline: 23:59 (UK time) on 30 November 2026\nEntry Fee: £33\nPrizes: 1st Place: £5\,000; all shortlisted entrants win feedback on their full manuscript; all longlisted entrants win extract feedback; online novel editing course worth £1\,980 for one longlisted entrant.\nWord Limit: Opening 5\,000 words plus one page synopsis of children’s or YA novel manuscripts\, or up to three picture book texts\nCategory: Children’s Novel Competitions\nCompetition Website:  bathnovelaward.co.uk/childrens-novel-award\n\nThe sister competition of the Bath Novel Award (which has been running since 2013)\, The Bath Children’s Novel Award is seeking the best new children’s authors. The competition is open to books that are unpublished\, self-published or even independently published\, and the following are accepted: YA novels; novels for teens; children’s novels; early readers; chapter books and the text of picture books. \nEntries should include up to 5\,000 words of your novel along with a one-page synopsis. Picture book entries should be text only of up to three books in a single submission with a short synopsis for each story. \nThe entry fee of £33 might appear on the high side when it comes to writing competitions. But then the judges and readers need to assess 5\,000 words plus a synopsis for each entry\, so it is understandable on a certain level. And the top prize for 2026 is a whopping £5\,000\, which is also very nice indeed (and probably more than a lot of a published authors make from royalties in a year!).
