DESCRIPTION:Deadline: 23.59 (UK time) on Monday 31st August 2026\nEntry Fee: FREE to newsletter subscribers (which is also free)\nPrizes: Winner: £50 plus one free entry to the New Writers Novel Prize 2026\nPublication: On the NewWriters.org.uk website and in the next New Writers Anthology\nWord Limit: 50 words (excluding title)\nCategory: Novel Competitions\nHow to Enter: Sign up to our free monthly newsletter (if you haven’t already)\, and then submit your logline through the entry form.\n\nTo get you in the mood for the New Writers Novel Prize 2026\, our latest free-to-enter competition is seeking just the logline for your unpublished (and perhaps unwritten!) novel\, novella or film script. \nWhat is a logline? \nIn essence\, a logline is a very brief summary that answers the question: “what is it about?” Consisting of one or two sentences\, it is also known as the “elevator pitch”. \nThe idea of the logline is to pique the interest of potential readers\, and the art is to summarise the premise of your book using very few words\, ideally around 25 or 30 (but we’ll give you up to 50 words\, to be nice!). \nFor more information about what a logline might conventionally include\, check out this BBC article. It includes several examples of loglines of well-known films to give you the idea. \nLogline Competition Details \nThis competition is FREE to enter\, but entrants must sign up to our NewWriters.org.uk Newsletter\, which is also free (use THIS LINK to sign up if you haven’t already). \nOur monthly newsletter includes details of upcoming writing competitions (including our current Novel Prize with £1\,000 going to the winner!)\, along with other writing news and special offers for writing-related products such as our favourite writing software. We don’t share subscribers’ information with anyone else. \nYour logline of up to 50 words must be your original work and must relate to a novel/novella/film script that you have written or that you might write one day. \nPlease DO NOT write a logline for a book\, film or TV series that already exists. \nAlso\, DO NOT use AI or AI-powered software to help write your logline or come up with ideas. Your imagination is amazing\, so please use that alone. \nIt is fine to send in a logline of a book you have not yet written (and it might prove an excellent starting point to get you writing a new novel). \nYour entry title should be the name of your novel/novel/script (and not simply ‘Logline’). Save the file (PDF or Word doc) as that title\, e.g. ‘The Wind Kicks Back.pdf’). Please don’t include your name on the entry. One entry per person. \nEntry to this free competition assumes you accept the following terms and conditions: \n\nEntries must be the sole work of the entrant and no AI or similar software may have been used to write it. Entries should include the opening of your novel (of up to 3\,000 words) along with a synopsis of up to 750 words.  \nThe entry fee of £10 for one novel\, £18 for two or £26 for three. There is also the option to purchase a critique of your entry (or entries)\, which costs £35 per story. Entries must not have been published and must be in English\, though entrants can reside anywhere in the world. So if you have honed at least the first part of you novel\, get involved and give yourself a chance of earning the top prize of £500.

The competition is open to books that are unpublished\, self-published or even independently published\, and the following are accepted: YA novels; novels for teens; children’s novels; early readers; chapter books and the text of picture books. \nEntries should include up to 5\,000 words of your novel along with a one-page synopsis. Picture book entries should be text only of up to three books in a single submission with a short synopsis for each story. \nThe entry fee of £33 might appear on the high side when it comes to writing competitions. But then the judges and readers need to assess 5\,000 words plus a synopsis for each entry\, so it is understandable on a certain level. And the top prize for 2026 is a whopping £5\,000\, which is also very nice indeed (and probably more than a lot of a published authors make from royalties in a year!).
