SUMMARY:Manchester Fiction Prize 2023
DESCRIPTION:Deadline: 5 pm (UK time) on 1 September 2023\nEntry Fee: £18\nPrizes: Winner: £10\,000 \nWord Limit: 2\,500 words\nChair of Judges: Adam O’Riordan\nCategory: Short Story Competitions\nCompetition Website:  mmu.ac.uk/writingcompetition/fiction-prize\n\nRun by Manchester Metropolitan University and established by former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy back in 2008\, The Manchester Writing Competition (incorporating the Poetry Prize and the Fiction Prize) is one of the most generous you will find anywhere for unpublished authors. Let’s cut right to the chase: winning £10\,000 would be a good day at the office for most established authors\, but for an unpublished writer with aspirations to make it in the literary world\, it could be game changing. \nFor the Fiction Prize\, entries should be of no more than 2\,500 words and can be on any theme or subject. The chair of the judges for the Fiction Prize is poet\, short story writer and novelist\, Adam O’Riordan. There is no doubt that winning this competition would pique the interest of agents and publishers\, so – despite the hefty entry fee – it’s well worth getting involved.

SUMMARY:V.S. Pritchett Short Story Prize
DESCRIPTION:Deadline: 5 pm (UK time) on 1 September 2023\nEntry Fee: £7.50\nPrizes: Winner: £1\,000\, the winning entry will be published in Prospect magazine and RSL Review\nWord Limit: 2\,000 to 4\,000 words\nChair of Judges: Julia Armfield\, Fred D’Aguiar and Juliet Jacques\nCategory: Short Story Competitions\nCompetition Website:  rsliterature.org/library-of-articles/v-s-pritchett-short-story-prize/\n\nRun by Royal Society of Literature\, there are few writing competitions (for unpublished stories) that are as prestigious as the V.S. Pritchett Short Story Prize. The £1\,000 top prize is perhaps not as large as some that are kicking around these days. But the real prize is that the winning story will be published in Prospect magazine and the RSL Review\, which is bound to be a highlight on most writers’ CVs. \nThe entry fee is a very reasonable £7.50 per story and stories must be between 2\,000 and 4\,000 words. Be sure to read the terms and conditions on the competition website. Note that entrants must be resident in the UK\, Republic of Ireland or Commonwealth. Good luck!
