The After the End project in partnership with the National Poetry Centre invites poets worldwide to submit original, previously unpublished work as part of an exciting research project exploring time, temporality, and the question of endings.
Prizes on offer! First prize £200, second and third places £100. Selected winning poems will be featured on the After the End website and social media channels. All winners will contribute to a community of creative responses informing the broader research project.
The organisers are looking for poetry inspired by the themes of the research project After the End. Creative responses that engage with ideas of time, temporality and endings and the question of who gets to say that something has ended. When global outbreaks of disease are declared ‘over’, what, when and for whom is an end ‘the end’ – and what happens afterwards? How do declarations of ends shape personal experiences of crises, ongoing access to care, health and obligations?
The competition is open internationally to poets of all experience levels and the organisers welcome submissions from new voices, established poets, and emerging talents.
The judging panel includes people from the world of poetry and academia. Enter your poem in English (40 lines max) by 1st December, 2026.
Full details can be found at the competition website, and you can read the winners of previous years’ competitions at aftertheend.org/poetrywinners.
