Sponsored by Literature Wales, the Poetry Wales Award is a single-poem competition open to poets worldwide to share their new, never-before-published work. The competition will be open from 17th December 2024 to 17th February 2025 and the entry fee is £5 per poem (maximum length 70 lines).
The judge for the 2024/25 competition is Jeremy Dixon, a prize-winning poet, workshop leader and maker of Artist’s Books. He is the author of the pamphlet IN RETAIL (Arachne Press, 2019). His first full collection A VOICE COMING FROM THEN (Arachne Press, 2021) won the Wales Book of the Year Poetry Award 2022.
The winner will receive £500 plus the choice of either a course at Literature Wales’ Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre or a week-long self-catered retreat at their dedicated writing retreat cottage, Nant. Second place will get £100 and third will get £50, and all three winners will be published in Poetry Wales and get a year’s subscription too. 10 highly commended poets will be invited to read at the Awarding Ceremony, and have their poems published in an online booklet on poetrywales.co.uk.
